DISCLOSURE: V. Zhang, None; J.G. Gianutsos, None; M.H. Lee, None. OBJECTIVE: To
investigate the effect of physical therapy (PT), acupuncture combined with PT,
and a combination of acupuncture, PT, and bloodletting in relieving pain of
patients with lumbar radiculopathy. Design: Randomized nonblinded trial with
repeated measures. Setting: Urban hospital. Participants: 63 patients with
lumbar radiculopathy. Interventions: Each group was treated twice a week for
6wk. Group I patients received standard PT. Group II patients were administered
PT as well as acupuncture. Group III patients were treated with PT,
acupuncture, and bloodletting. Main Outcome Measures: Effect of these
interventions singly or in combination on patients' perceived level of pain as
assessed by visual analog scales (VASs). Patients completed VASs of pain on a
10-level chart (0-10) prior to and after each therapeutic session. Results:
Group I reported a 3-level reduction in pain. Group II reported a 4-level
reduction in pain. Group III reported a 6-level reduction in pain. Conclusions:
The data support the idea that acupuncture and bloodletting therapy are very
effective in combination with or as alternatives to standard PT. A combination
of standard PT, acupuncture, and bloodletting constitutes a promising treatment
for pain patients with low back pain related to lumbar radiculopathy. Key

I never trusted Canadian pharmacies before. A friend suggested once to try
out AffordableDrugs - a Canadian mail order pharmacy. I did, and I don't
regret it! The savings were huge, the service was great and it was not as
complicated as I thought it would be. I am extremely grateful to Canadi... (Read More)
