There have been confirmed reports
() of certain
Ayurvedic preparations imported from India that have caused serious
health problems. These medications are being manufactured in India and
imported in USA. They are being consumed without proper medical advice
or quality control. Such importation should be banned by the respective
governments. There is now increased interest in importing other types
of Ayurvedic medications under the guise of, " Alternative Therapies."
This is being done for making big profits since "Alternative Therapies"
are becoming more and more popular. This is a dangerous practice. Most
of the Ayurvedic medicines are prepared by the methods that were
established hundreds of years ago. The same methods are even used today.
These methods have poor quality control, and those who manufacture these
medications are not using tests that can easily detect presence of heavy
metals and other toxic substances. Now some of these Ayurvedic
medications are being sold "online" (e.g. and
). It would be appropriate for the Western
countries to ban the importation of these types of medications, most of
which have NOT been tested clinically in statistically validated human
patient trials for their effectiveness. There are other significant
problems that are posed by use of Ayurvedic medications that are often
sold "over-the-counter" form and these can interact with other
prescribed medications. For information see

Claim that "Ayurvedic Samskaras" convert extremely toxic substances into
useful medicines is also unsubstantiated.
