"CHARTER

The proposed group would be intended for discussions about different
aspects of arthritis and related autoimmune disorders, such as lupus
and
scleroderma, mainly from the patient's point of view. Medical
discussions are supposed to be informational only, not intended for a
substitute of consulting a properly trained medical practitioner.

Anyone with an interest in arthritis is free to post, including but
not
limited to patients, their friends and family members, doctors, and
other medical professionals dealing with different forms of arthritis.

The following are examples of intended topics:

- symptoms and causes of different forms of arthritis
- treatments, both conventional and alternative
- arthritis-related practical problems and ways to overcome them
- social issues relevant to arthritis patients
- emotional support
- different resources available to people with arthritis

Scientific discussions that are likely to interest arthritis patients
in
general are welcome on misc.health.arthritis, even if cross-posted to
sci.med.immunology.

Commercial advertisements may NOT be posted to the proposed group."

How about posting this every few days? It would help sort out the
uneducated advertisers from the deliberate rule breaking ones. Just a
thought. You got your way though-- You punished me for my ignorance
and I lost my yahoo account, but at least I won't ever make that
mistake again. Good luck all and I pray your pain from the arthritis
is alleviated.

You have joined the thousands of people that have come here to make money
off of people with arthritis problems that have lost their internet account.
You did not ask what the rules are. You just did your thing and paid
the price. It will not take you long to get another account but you will
remember that this is not the place to come to make money.
Thank you for posting the charter and it is a good idea to post it
every now and then.

I'm not trying to sell anything but am new to your group. Do you all
have dicussion regarding tendonitis? I have developed the condition
do to overuse from running and lifting weights. Below is an overview
of the condition from a web site that I discoverd. Does anyone know
of a good approach to curing this condition?

Many thanks,
Steve

Quadriceps Tendonitis
Rusty Ford

Quadriceps Tendonitis is an inflammation swelling or irritation of the
tendons of the knee joint. The Quadriceps tendon becomes inflamed and
tender due to overuse. Overuse injuries of the Quadriceps tendon occur
when you repeat a particular activity (usually running, jumping or
high-impact) until there is micro-failure of the tissue that makes up
the substance of the tendon. Swelling, inflammation and pain follows.

Symptoms of Quadriceps Tendonitis
People with Tendonitis often have tenderness at the point where the
Quadriceps tendon meets the bone. In addition, they may feel pain
during running, hurried walking, or jumping. A complete rupture of the
quadriceps or Quadriceps tendon is not only painful, but also makes it
difficult for a person to bend, extend, or lift the leg against
gravity.

Treatment of Quadriceps Tendonitis
Initially, the doctor may ask a patient with Tendonitis to rest,
elevate, and apply ice to the knee and to take medicines such as
aspirin or ibuprofen to relieve pain and decrease inflammation and
swelling. If the quadriceps or Quadriceps tendon is completely
ruptured, a surgeon will reattach the ends. After surgery, the patient
will wear a cast for 3 to 6 weeks and use crutches. For a partial
tear, the doctor might apply a cast without performing surgery.

Rehabilitating a partial or complete tear of a tendon requires an
exercise program that is similar to but less vigorous than that
prescribed for ligament injuries. The goals of exercise are to restore
the ability to bend and straighten the knee and to strengthen the leg
to prevent repeat injury. A rehabilitation program may last 6 months,
although the patient can return to many activities before then.

you don't say if you have had a scan to determine how seriously the muscle/tendon is compromised so i wouldn't want
to speculate re specifics.

http://www.kneepaininfo.com/kneeQuadTendinitis.html
http://www.arthroscopy.com/quadrep.htm
http://www.emedicine.com/sports/topic109.htm

might give you a bit more info to discuss with your dr or pt -

since you post from mhhs.org, you probably have access to all of Memorial Hermann, you should not have any diff.
getting a decent referral for their radiography, sportsmed center, and rehabilitation services programs

as to thomas 'rusty' ford - even though there might be 'some' relevant information there, he is first and foremost,
a commercial purveyor of otc/herbal/etc products and, as such, is not on my list of usable resources.

perhaps the best i can say is that it is accurate as to a minimum timeline of 6 months + to properly rehab a quad
muscle - providing there is no actual tear or calcification.

but recovery (not cure) will involve a thorough understanding of the exact nature of the injury, appropriate care,
and solving those conditions that precipitated it to begin with.

running, and weightlifting, are classic causes of this condition - almost a stereotype of 'working out' to excess.

be well

paul
