In ICU with septic blood infection

In ICU with septic blood infection -- Posted by Liz-TX on 03-07-05 21:49

It has been years since I have posted.. Things have been going fine for the
most part. I have been on Remicade, Methetrexate, 10 mg. Predisone for my
Rheumatoid Arthritis.

For the past 6 weeks I was having cold sweats. I mentioned it to my
doctor/s who suggested reducing my thyroid med, going back on the estrogen
patch. I knew I was a lot more tired than usual. I knew my chest felt very
tight. But when they examined me, they said the chest was clear.

Well, long story short, I just spent 4 days in ICU and 3 days in the
critical care unit. My blood pressure was under 40 over 30-something. My
fever was 104.6. I was vomiting constantly. After 3 days my blood pressure
finally stayed up without the dopamine. I had bacterial pneumonia and my
blood had gone septic.

Of course everyone there and my family talks about the Remicade. But my
problem is that when I am sick but almost symtomless, I have a difficult
time getting doctors to give me antibiotics. I knew I was sick. I am
hoping that in the future my Internal Medicine Specialist will listen to me.
I think she will from now on...

Has anyone else had problems with the low immune system and doctors who
won't listen? Thank God my daughter was here to call the ambulance.

Good to see some familiar names.
Barbara (used to be from Plano...)
