Are you in Pain?
Want to investigate the reasons behind your pain?
Enjoy music?
Get involved in a ground-breaking national study…
Do you suffer from Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) or Osteoarthritis?
Or are you a healthy person with an interest in the power of music?
If so, can you spare 15 minutes a day just to listen to music?
What is required?
Just 15 minutes per day
For up to 6 weeks
Varying levels of commitment
No travelling required
Take part from home
No costs incurred
Must have:
Personal Computer (PC)
E-mail and internet access
Enough energy to relax and listen!
Recent studies show that there has been a surge in interest in the use
of music as a method of post-operative pain reduction. Following
surgery, patients who listen to or are involved in music have been
shown to have reduced pain levels. Similarly, in clinical studies
where music is played during surgery, patients have been found to need
smaller dosages of emergency morphine. These results are exciting and
confirm that music can have very powerful effects in alleviating
post-operative pain.
However, there has been virtually no research on the effects of music
on chronic pain, such as that experienced by RSI and osteoarthritis
sufferers. I am just beginning a study into chronic pain – RSI and
osteoarthritis – and music listening at Keele University and am
looking for people who are willing to help.
