| I don't want to come across as an expert because I'm not. However, a
| disease is defined by the effects on the body that can be measured. If
| your pancrease is not producing insulin, you have T1 diabetes. It
| doesn't matter what caused that condition, but it is T1 that must be
| treated.
|

| Well, THAT is the question. Can sweets use up your supply of insulin or
| the pancreas's ability to produce it?
Well the answer is.... for a Type 2 perhaps, for a Type 1 NO!
|
| So far no credible medical references have been posted.
crediability? I think myself being a T1 who is in good control, who
was misdiagnosed and had to fight to seek out proper medical treatment
qualifys me very well to know about Type 1's to the degree you are asking
about. though since you don't know me... try the Joslin Clinic or Mayo
Clinic both have very good information about Type 1 IDDM.

What it will do is help make him fat and lazy, which has all sorts of other
nasty health effects. I'm taking my child out for a bike ride in about 20
minutes, when she's done with her snack....

The Protein Power Lifeplan
is a book that you can probably
find in a library that gets into
the mechanisms of insulin and what's
in store for that kid. In a word,
adult-onset diabetes is the full-blown
disease that starts with insulin
resistance and hyperinsulinemia
(high circulating insulin levels too
much of the time). That kid is
running full speed toward all of that.
Too much sugar and starch (carbohydrate)
in the diet starts the insulin resistance/
hyperinsulinemia/diabetes ball rolling.
The book I mentioned as well as all the
other low-carb diet books (and their
associated websites) reference studies
(the credible research you're looking for).
