A Question about Pumps Re: A Question about Pumps -- Posted by jello5500 on 09-15-05 15:32
Look again at the sites. Minimed, for what it is worth, has an
implanted sensor, but it is not yet merged with their pump.
Deltec has a combination manual meter that interfaces directly with
their pump.
This isn't the non-invasive technology promised, but products that are
now being sold.

And this is almost exactly the technology state we were in 20-30 years ago
with Dr. Santiago's work with artificial pancreases at Barnes Hospital in
Missouri. It didn't work then, either: while modern devices have fancy
digital controls available to them, there's been no fundamental improvement
in the sensor technology itself, despite many millions of dollars of
research and many man-years of competent work experimenting.
