IBS, Impotence, Diabetes

IBS, Impotence, Diabetes -- Posted by meyerdt@yahoo.com on 09-29-05 08:19

Over the past half year my IBS symptoms seem to have really
exacerbated. Particularly what happens is that when I have a bowel
movement, I can be evacuated, yet I still have the urge to go. I can
end up in the bathroom several/many times in a half/whole day,
straining like crazy to go, but nothing happens since there is nothing
there.

This usually ends up being quite painful to various parts of my
anatomy, including anus, penis, legs, and related muscles. The pain
usually subsides over time (couple of hours), as the urge to go
dissipates. A few times when I've been more severely straining, I've
also noticed some (nerve?) pressure at the base of my spine.

Which brings me to my main point: could any or all of this cause or
exacerbate impotence? In June I was to a urologist who said that my
impotence was pretty much caused by being a diabetic for 26 years (I am
40), which I know is a leading cause for impotence. But timing-wise,
the two health issues seem to have come about simultaneously. Has
anybody experienced these two health conditions together? If so, what
has your experience been? I can handle being a diabetic, but these
other two things really affect my life.

I started using Cialis, then Viagra last spring, which worked okay at
the very beginning. However, since then they've been exceedingly
unreliable, which is extremely frustrating to both my girlfriend and me.

Beware: this may be TMI for some,

Check with your doctor on this, but I decided to end the struggle in
bathroom by using a simple enema bag filled with nothing but water. No
more straining and no chemicals. It may be that there is some matter
left in you colon that you can't easily eliminate. But check with your
doctor. Enemas may be contraindicated with IBS. Simple tap water does
wonders for me.

As for impotence, Viagra mostly solved my problem, but when it doesn't
work so well on occasion, I can fill in for my girlfriend with one of
her favorites and mine, O.S. (hint: Clinton admin.---Oral Office).
