Question regarding low blood sugar

Question regarding low blood sugar -- Posted by Maskman on 09-13-03 15:25

Hi,
I am pretty sure by now that when my blood sugar gets low so does my
disposition. In other words, if I am feeling cranky, irritable, shaky,
stomach empty, and take a glucose reading it's usually on the low side, ie,
high 90's-low100's. At least I think this is the case although I'm fairly
new at this. From reading posts, etc. on the subject of low blood sugar and
what I've described above, I would expect my glucose readings to be much
lower.
My question is: can some individuals experience hypoglycemia with the
readings I'm getting? I've cheered the readings I've been getting but am
now wondering if I'm safer at levels somewhat above.
Thanks,
Jerry

Umm... according to the sources I have, 70-120 is in the NORMAL range,
below 70 is considered low.

That being said, if you're just now GETTING to the 90-100 range from a
sustained higher readings, then there's a "pseudo" low that your body
feels until it adjusts to the new lower levels.

There was another thread called "pseuo-hypoglycemia" where I asked
just about the same question and got what I just told you in reply...

Mike - diagnosed July 8th, 03 metformin 500mg x2, altace 5mg and
lovacor 20mg 84-120 readings.

I went through something similar right after I was diagnosed, and during a
perios in my teens years when I rebelled and my BG levels were WAY too high
for a while. When I got them back under control, I experienced pseudo-lows
at 125 mg/dl for about three days, and then rather quickly got back into the
range where things were almost perfectly normal.

You may never fall into the typecast ranges they say are 'normal', and that
is probably ok, I think. One thing I have learned after ten years of putting
insulin into myself is that none of us are that stereotypical picture of
perfection we would like to be. Those charts are a general range, but we're
all different.

Good luck.

Hi Jerry,

I, too, have these symptoms, but have found that when I changed
from my AT LAST meter to a FREESTYLE version all of my
numbers increased by 20%. After having by Dr Office check out
my numbers, I have now adjusted by goals by 20% and am doing
great. (Yes, my Ab1c are in the low 6's so my Dr not worried)

I suggest you take you meter in to you next appt. and do some
comparisons.

You know what's scary when I go too low? My mind acknowledges
the problem, but my body won't respond and I get too fussy minded
to remember to eat something.

Good Luck, Jolene
