type one is when you are born with a malfunctioning pancreas commonly known
as juvenile diabetes. type 2 is when you are older and you become insulin
intolerance or a bad pancreases. this is what was explained to me. I could
be wrong

This explanation is confusing several different old explanations. And
*no one* is born diabetic, except maybe a couple of weird cases like
cystic fibrosis or XYY chromosomes.
The used to be called "juvenile onset", because the more profound
diabetes usually involving complete loss of all insulin production by
destruction of all insulin producing cells was more common among kids.
These days, that particular *form* of diabetes is called "Type 1", no
matter when you get it, because it does happen to some adults.
"Adult onset" usually involved a resistance to insulin. That resistance
to insulin is now called Type 2, and a few kids do get it.

Sounds like Type 2. But there are people who get Type 1 late in life,
treat it early, and seem to retain some insulin production until the
natural end of their life.
Lucky bastards.....

As I understand it, with type 1 diabetes, the pancreas no longer produces
insulin, or doesn't produce nearly enough. And it is usually treated with
insulin injections of some type. The origin can be any number of things,
removal of the pancreas, damage due to disease/injury, etc.
Type 2 means that the pancreas MAKES enough, but for some reason, it
doesn't work as well as it should. It is usually treated with medications,
and SOMETIMES, once the glucose level is under control, just diet and
exercise changes.
I'll leave age of onset, and all that stuff to the experts, what I've said
so far is ONLY my understanding of what I"ve read so far.

Geneally Type I begins in youth and is totally insulin dependent. Type II
begins in middle age and mauy be elated to diet, little exercise and
obesity, although not necessarily. both tend to run in families. Becaue
people ae living longer and are geneally less active and eat unhealthily,
the incidence of type two also call adult onset diabetis is rapidly
increasing. Proper diet, exercise and weightloss is often all that is
require to control type II. This is all an oversimplification, as they are
learning more and more about "insulin resistance" and decreased insulin
production. The very best thing a Type II is to get frequent exercise even
if it is minimal--and reduce calories.Of the two, exercise is the most
critical.
The improvement in eyesight may or may not be a good sign. suger in the
bloodstream can swell the lenses of the eyes producing razor-sharp atypical
vision. If this is the result of high bgs--it should go back to
"normal"--unfortunately--with proper control. However--there are instances
where the overall improvement in bloodflow resulting from lifestyle changes
compelled by attempts to control diabetis can improve sight overall.
