Anyone in this NG taking "Amaryl" - (Glimepiride) ? Anyone in this NG taking "Amaryl" - (Glimepiride) ? -- Posted by CiscoKidİ on 10-27-03 11:13
Hi, just met with my new Endochronologist (2nd Visit) and he
temporarilly took me off my Insulin Pump - (based on lab results).
I am to begin taking Actos (45 mg) and Amaryl (Glimepiride) 4mg once
daily in the morning.
This is in addition to 850mg of Metformin and 50 mg Precose, both
taken each meal.
My Dr. feels that my Pancreas is still producing some insulin. He
warned me that my BG could go up to the 300's or may spike into the
400's.
He feels that if all goes well, my body will react favorably to this
new medication in addition to a strick diet and some exercise.
He also feels that the insulin pump was one of the reasons that I was
craving food and/or gaining weight due to the constant insulin
regimen.
I have to admit, I did have a seditary life style, only recently began
taking brisk walks in the morning 4 times a day at work (Tuesday
through Friday). I still have to get motivated to walk on my "off
days" (Saturday through Monday).
My Insulin Basal rate prior to his decision to take me off the pump
was at 3.4 Units/hr. He bumped me up to the following:
24:00 hrs to 3:00 a.m. = 2.5 Units/hr
3:00 a.m. t0 9:00 a.m. = 4.0 Units/hr
9:00 a.m. to 24:00 hrs = 3.5 Units/hr
My Meal Bolus was increased from 1 Unit per 15 grams Carbohydrate to
1 Unit per 4 grams Carbohydrate, plus 1 Unit /10 mg/dl if my BG sugar
was over 100 mg/dl prior to eating and 1Unit/10 mg/dl if my BG sugar
was over 140 mg/dl - 2 hrs after eating.
If I at over 5 oz meat, I was to add 1 Unit of insulin.
I was placed on an 1800 Cal diet.
Since I was on the pump, I gained about 50 llbs, I now weigh 295 lbs.
Just hope that this new oral meds (with diet and exercise) will do the
trick.
Hope to here from someone who has taken "Amaryl."

Just wanted to make a correction on what I had originally posted. I
guess I gained about 20 pounds since I went on the pump. I
incorrectly stated that I had gained 50 pounds.
I do hope that the new medications prescribed for me will do the
trick, together with diet and exercise I should lose some weight and
have better BG numbers.
