Hi hope this group can help me. Around 15 years ago I was diagnosed with
type 2. I was told I could control it with diet and all went well for a
while. Then in 1987 I had open heart surgery due to some blockage. I was
told then I had some other minor blockage but could not be repaired due to
small amount of blockage and insurance regulations. Time off work created a
hardship on me and my family. We needed up losing our home because of that
and a failed business.

I continues with diet and Actos thinking everything was going fine never
told to check my sugar levels at home. Then in 2001 I had heart problems
again and went back for more surgery to open the other blockage's.
Everything has been fine until now.

I returned home after a 2 week job of working 12 hours a day 7 days a week.
This was away from home and at night. Living in a motel and eating out I
started to feel tired all the time but who wouldn't. Leg cramps started to
set in and when I got home I called my Doctor. He said it sounded like sugar
and gave me Gtlucophage XR 500 mg and a home testing monitor. I came home
and after 4 days my lowest level was 195 most the time around 240. I called
him Monday and he called in a script for Glyburde 5 mg. I levels are better
now but still get high now and then.

I go back to Doc tomorrow and I know little about this and what I should
ask. Any help of any kind would be appreciated from what to ask to diet
hints and educational materials.

Thanks and sorry for such a long post

Tim

Hello Tim. Sorry to hear about your situation. I have recently found
theat the best way to deal with serious health issues is to be "pit
bull" proactive in maintaining and dealing with the problem. With that
said, let me ask you this: do you have a printer? If so, start doing
some serious research online regarding heart disease and diabetes and
print out everything that you find that is relevant to your situation.
That way you can compare that info with what your doctor tells you. This
is not to say that your doctor isn't well versed, but sometimes there
are things out there that they do NOT know about, and that you can ask
about.

Also do a search for other newsgroups and message boards that have
people who are going through simliar issues. That helps a LOT. Use your
favorite search engine. I like Google: http://www.google.com.

Basically, regarding your doctor's visit in general, just tell him/her
exactly all of the problems that you are having, even if it sounds
petty, tell him/her anyway!

Good luck!!!
