First of all, welcome to the group that nobody wants to join.

Take a look at how much you are exercising versus how much
you are eating, before you worry too much about your (admittedly still
high) bg level. You might want to make sure that you are testing
at least several times a day, to see when levels are going up and
when they are going down. It is possible that a standard diet is just
not right for you, and that you are eating something to which you
are unusually sensitive. You mention taking glucophage, but are you
on any other meds? Is your weight in the normal range? Has your doc
check your insulin level? It is an unfortunate fact that you may
have to take insulin, at least for a while if you are too heavy.

Also, you did not mention how long you have been dieting.
Any change to body chemistry will take time. If you still don't
get dwon to a reasonable level in a month or so, you may have
to ask your doc about taking some other drug. (The reson I don't
mention any is that I am not a doc, and not qualified to give
you mediacl advice.)

One final note: try to relax and believe that you will
get through this phase. Emotions have a harsh effect on
diabetics.

Speaking only for myself,
