TYPE II Disappers?

TYPE II Disappers? -- Posted by Jesse Spencer on 07-29-03 21:00

I saw Dr Isadore Rosenfeld on Fox news 's sunday show. He said loss of
weight can lead to type II disappearing. Is this true??

It depends on what you mean. Weight loss and diet can control
tpye II, meaning that you will not need meds and will maintain
reasonably normal bg readings. You could never consider yourself
"cured" in that you could never safely go on an ice cream and cake bash,
like non-diabetics. You could sometimes eat a deit that mirrors a
reasonable diet for those around you, but considering yourself
"cured" as such would, IMHO, be very dangerous.

Speaking only for myself,

By the time T2 is diagnosed you've lost 1/2 of your beta-cell
function. You won't get that function back. You may be able to go
off meds, though.

Yikes! Is that true? Do others on this newsgroup support that? What's your source? That is
truly frightening?

Is there a way to test for Beta cell presence/performance vs. resistance?

I have also read that you have lost 50% of the beta cells when diagnosed.
Maybe true, but people are different. some has lost 70 and some has lost 30.
This is just statistics.

When i was diagnosed almost 3 years ago i had an fbg at 147 and an A1c at
5.4. I have lost 60+ pound and now has fbg at 92. When i test after eating
i'm often lower than non-diabetic people(people with fbg at 85) when we eat
the same food. Sometimes little higher, but very close to them.

I try to eat low carbo normally so i are probally lower than them over all.

Maybe i have lost 50% of my beta cells, but since my A1c is lower than
normal non-diabetic i dont care.
