sweetener experience and question

sweetener experience and question -- Posted by Mortgage.Author on 06-03-04 17:55

I have been caring for my dad for a while and his blood sugar was over 400
for some time. Due to his age and health, he cannot take any more
glucophage or glipizide so his doctor told him to stop all foods, beverages
and candies with sweeteners. He did and now his blood sugar is under 200.
Amazing to me. Does that mean the sweeteners DO affect glucose levels and
we diabetics should not be ingesting them?

Hello. Certain foods that are sweetened can have an affect on blood
glucose. Here is some info to reference:

Or, you can easily do a search on sweetners and glucose levels by typing
in keywords like "Sweetners and blood glucose levels" which I did with
http://www.websearch.com/.

Good luck.

These are uncertain times. Thank goodness you're such a rock. Now don't
be mad if everyone else isn't. You can only expect so much from mere
mortals.

"It depends". Sorbitol, for example, has similar calories to sugar but is
processed much more slowly and in the gut, so it doesn't rot your teeth like
sucrose does or give the harsh blood sugar kick. Also, many of us unaware of
the problem tend to cheat and eat things that have sweetener and are marked
"diabetic" or "dietetic" and not realize how much sugar and simple
carbohydrate remains in them.

Why isn't your dad on insulin now?
