Hello Everyone I am a new member to the group. I am a type 2 diabetic
who is struggling with weightloss. I went and talked to a diabetic
educator and nutritionist and they had me on a carb restricted diet.
That somewhat worked but then I gained back what I had lost. I do walk
and understand the importance of excercise along with eating properly.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Please feel free to email
me with any comments or suggestions! Thank You,
Kim

I to am a type2. I found that the National Institute of Health (NIH)
has a wonderful website full of great
information. The address is:
www.niddk.nih/gov
that is their home page. From there you can select what you want.

I am a type 2 as well. The most important thing about diet is
to remember to set up a reasonable diet, and stick to it. You will see
results, but not for at least a month. My Dr. suggests (as does the
Merck manual) starting with an 1800 cal per day diet for everyone,
then adjusting if required. If you need to lose 40 lb or so, expect it
to take about a year. I personalaly found that relentlessly writing
down each and every bit of food I ate helped me to stick to the diet.

It is sad but true that the diet lasts until the day they gather
to say goodbye to you. It is true that exercise is important, but I
found it easier to concentrate on diet alone at first. Good luck
to you.

Speaking only for myself,

Joe Durusau

Hi Kim,

Try logging daily intake so you can see habits and plan accordingly.

You didn't mention what medications your on, if any.

For me, metformin alone helped me drop 17 lbs, since July 8. I've just
added mevacor (cholesterol) and altace (blood pressure) to the regime
and haven't had enough time to see what THEY will do to/for me...

As for exercise, I mow/weedeat once a week (about 2.5 hours mostly
aerobic, all the walking, ya know) Then on a nightly basis, other
than mowing day, I do 40 crunches, 40 leg lifts, 60 single leg lifts
(laying on side and raising top leg) with each leg, then 40 more
lifting the bottom leg, getting the inner thigh. I do a full set of
this with every commercial break during one TV show at night...

Other than when I splurge on 2 slices of pizza or something, my BG
levels stay in the 95-120 range.
