diabetes and IBS (newbie)

diabetes and IBS (newbie) -- Posted by doug beers on 08-05-03 23:23

Hello, group; I have been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes since 2001, and
also suffer from Irritable Bowel Syndrome, since 1997. The BG is fairly
easy to control, I seem to have more IR and only take oral meds, but
cannot take Glucophage because it causes diarrhea. I am about 40 lbs
overweight, don't exercise nearly enough, and eat out too much. So also
have high LDL cholesterol and high blood pressure. At age 49 my doctor
says I could easily have stroke, and am taking steps to eat better, get
more rest (essential for IBS) and try to eat better. Anyone else out
there in my situation? Would appreciate any advice from the group, I
lurk a lot and read nearly everything.

Hi Doug,

Some similarities but not the IBS. I am approximately five years
older. Have been using type 2 meds ,on and off and on again, about
three years. Haven't been as watchful lately- monitoring and logging
daily food intake as at first.Do take lipitor and vitamins as well.

Have found my body seems to respond best away from high carbs and
sweets; giving it more protein ( chicken and fish than red meat ),
vegetable ( with increase of dark greens ), more water ( to flush toxins
out ), whole grains and nuts, more rest and less stress. Spacing meal
times is important to avoid spikes. Discipline isn't easy, but there are
others around us who care and need to be cared for in this life. I,m
fortunate to have a loving partner in life who gives her best for me.

Fellowship in this group gives us all the chance to lift up those who
are asking for help ( searching for answers ) Accent good in life and
it will come back to bless you .
