Aspirin OK for heart patients on ACE inhibitors
Oct 20 (Reuters Health) - Contrary to earlier studies, aspirin does not
adversely affect the survival of patients with congestive heart failure who
are also being treated with ACE inhibitors.
ACE inhibitor drugs have been shown to improve the condition of heart
failure patients, and regular aspirin is recommended for patients who might
have a heart attack. Whether there's a problem with taking both drugs has
been examined in several studies and many have suggested a harmful effect of
aspirin, say the authors of an article in the medical journal Chest.
The "unique feature" of the current study, Dr. Pascal de Groote and
colleagues note, is that it took into account the cause of heart failure in
the subjects, as well as the severity of their condition, and the doses of
aspirin and ACE inhibitors they were taking at the beginning of the study.
All 693 heart failure patients in the study were in stable condition and
were being treated with ACE inhibitors, and 287 were also taking aspirin.
The group was tracked for a median of nearly six years.
During that period, 273 cardiac-related and 46 non-cardiac deaths occurred,
Groote's team, from the Hopital Cardiologique in Lille, France, report. In
addition, 14 urgent and 71 non- urgent heart transplants took place.
At one and two years, mortality rates due to cardiovascular causes were 11.5
percent and 19 percent, respectively. The researchers found no evidence that
aspirin use had an adverse effect on survival.
In a related editorial, Dr. Hans Peter Brunner-La Rocca, from the University
Hospital in Basel, Switzerland, comments that "taken together, the evidence
for a significant interaction between aspirin and ACE inhibitors in CHF
patients is minimal, as long as low-dose aspirin are used."

A quarter teaspoon per day with breakfast did not work for me even after 40

Then, I started again. This time, a half teaspoon mixed with my psyllium
fiber morning drink began working almost immediately.
My typical morning reading before the above r... (Read More)
