Proper reading of Diastix strip results?

Proper reading of Diastix strip results? -- Posted by Mark on 12-12-04 11:45

Hi, I am using Diastix urine strips to measure my dog's glucose levels
each morning. The problem I have (I am new at this you see) is that
while the instruction says to compare the color after 30 seconds, quite
often the color after 30 seconds is very dark (brown - indicating "2 or
more g/dL") but after 2 minutes or so turns brighter indicating only "1
g/dL". It then stays at 1 permanently. So my question is, what is the
actual value I should be recording: is it 2 (which is color after 30
seconds) or 1 which is the color that eventually the stick turns into.
Thanks for any thoughts on this you may have. Mark

why don't you check his blood glucose? if he is spilling any sugar in
his urine it is already way too high and has cross his renal thresh
hold. do web search on diabetic pets and diabetic dogs, you will find
a great deal of info about how to better care for the dog.
