How can I afford to check my blood glucose as often as I should?

Answer:
Monitoring your blood glucose can be expensive. The strips you use to check
twice a day can cost as much as $700 a year. If you don't have good health
insurance, you may have to pay all of that yourself. If you are having
trouble paying for your strips, talk to your health care provider. Your
provider could help you find a source for limited supplies of free strips, a
less expensive strip to use, or different insurance plans that have better
reimbursement for strips. You can also make the most of information you get
from limited monitoring by checking at different times each day. For
example, check before and after your breakfast one day, before and after
lunch the next, etc.

Remember, some information is always better than none at all. Talk to your
health care provider to decide on the best monitoring schedule for you.
