Metformin has benefits besides its effect on blood sugar. As long as most
of your fasting readings are above 90 I'd keep taking it.

Keep in mind too, that meformin has a cumulative effect. If memory
serves, the strongest effect of the medicine is felt beyond 90 days. It
will also take a while to get out of your system completely. So, while
you've still not taken it in a while, it may still be doing its job.

I agree with another author who posts to get a second opinion. To me,
your doctor seems like he knows what he is doing. It sounds as if you
have good control of your BG, so you are doing something right. You are
lucky!

I agree that you shouldn't take medicines you don't need. Keep in mind
though that herbals are not required to undergo the same stringent
report of side effects that 'prescribed' medicines are. They are not
regulated. Also, drug companies do a better job of reporting side
effects. They have a lot of money to gain by the sales of their drugs.
They have a lot of money to lose in lawsuits too, if there does turn out
to be a problem. Many drug companies have several 'clinical trials' to
help identify problems, side effects, and problems associates with
mixing their medicine with others. See how many 'herbal' and 'folk
remedies' have undergone the same. I think you will be hard pressed to
find anyone who has tested them since there is really not much money to
be made and no regulations to require them to.

Be careful with 'mixing' too many things. At the least they can cancel
each other out. Worse, they could wipe out or make you deficient in
other things that you are 'normal' at now.

John, it's always nice to have a doctor on your team whom you feel most
confortable with. This is your LIFE you are playing with. You should
have a doctor you feel confident about. The sad news is that many
doctors just don't have the time to keep up with you to the degree you
need them. They may not have the time/inclination to keep up with the
changes in diabetes research. This doesn't mean you can't do your own
research though and talk with your doctor about what you find.
Good luck with whatever you do. I wish you the best.
A fellow diabetic,

[[Medicine is dangerous and nobody should have to be on any type of
medication
forever. Most pills list possible side effects. Those side effects may
not
happen now, but the medication you are taking could slowly deteriorate
some
organ or 2 in your body that eventually something goes wrong 10 years
after
taking the same medication.]]
Very true. Recent studies have shown the dangers of certain cardiac
medications. Most studies do not weigh the benefits of drugs against
potential side effects because drug companies fund many of the studies
or control how they are reported. It's your life, your health and,
ultimately, your decision. I would not take any drug that I felt was
not benefiting me.

John, keep monitoring your blood sugar. If it is normal than don't take the
medication. However, if it isn't than you must take it!!!!
As for the supplements, you are taking your life in your hands and risking
your health with questionable safety for the herbal crap - stay clear of it!

I'd like to hear from anyone who has had fusion surgery involving the

says the only course of action is fusion surgery.
Thanks in advance
