frequent urination

frequent urination -- Posted by Quiet Neighbor on 05-24-05 13:01

x-no-archive: yes

Probably due to type 2 diabetes and some age related (50) prostate
enlargement I have periods of the day when I need to urinate about every 20
minutes. My doctor could not or would not prescribe anything for it. I
have wondered if there might be something herbal, an over-the-counter
product, or a supplement that might be possible to take to cause a 2 hour
pause in urination.

Any ideas?

I'm concerned with the statement "probably due to type 2 diabetes"...

Have you been diagnosed with T2?

If so, are your BGs usually out of the normal range?

If you have a yest to both, then the "cure" isn't a supplement, it's
glucose control.

If you haven't been diagnosed, then your doc needs to check for
diabetes.

I had a similar problem. It cleared up when I got the glucose under
control.... eg. consistently under 100 mg/dL. That was not very easy to do,
however, and it still takes constant testing and attention to diet and
exercise. Diabetes will not be ignored. It is a killer that you have to keep
tied up and in the corner, or it will get you.

Are you on a diuretic?

I am and it interrupts my morning fishing trips with numerous "Calls of the
Diuretic"

if it is due to diabetes and your doctor would not prescribe anything
for it, you seriously need a new doctor. because that means your BGs
are not controlled. simply having diabetes does not mean that you
will be urinating excessively unless you have high BGs. If it due to
an enlarged prostate see a urologist and get appropriate care.

Frequent urination isn't simply a symptom of diabetes, it is symptom of
*uncontrolled* diabetes. If, as you suspect, it is being caused by type
two diabetes, don't you think that getting it in control would be a good
starting point?
