I have only recently been diagnosed as having Diabetes type 2 by my doc.
Does anyone have a detailed list of symptoms that can be experienced as from
reading some of the websites not all my symptoms seem to be those of
diabetes?
Also from starting medication, what sort of timescale can it take to start
feeling improved energy levels ... one of my main symptoms is extreme
exhaustion all the time.

You really, really need to go back and talk to your doctor. If he can't
answer questions about diabetes, it's time to find a new doc. You can have
diabetes and feel fine....until the sugar level gets so high you have a
stroke or so low you pass out when ever you try to get up on your feet. If
you are feeling "run down" it may be from something else. Really,
John.....go talk to the professional.
