Lets let the experts in here decide

Lets let the experts in here decide -- Posted by Cheeky Bastard on 06-29-05 16:23

I seem to be getting some conflicting reports about my health so I will hold
back on my personal observations and let the real experts (People who are
diabetic) comment.

I will add that exercise is not too much of an option right now because I
have Fibromyalgia and I am under no pain management so even mopping the
floor wears me out.
I am not yet looking for advice on what to do yet as I have and have read
lots of information and have been lurking here.
I just would like your opinions of what the numbers tell you because there
are more of you and all of you have a different doctor and more doctors VS.
the one PA-C I have seen.

36 Yro Wht Male
6'2"
271 lbs consistantly
History of high BP
Insulin resistance due to having the Fibromyalgia.

Hold onto your socks here come the numbers.

BP sitting.
167/115 electronic
150/104 on the retake with old style BP
Pulse 100
Resp 20
O2 Sat 96
154/113 later that night on electronic machine while visiting a friend at
the V.A Hospital.

6/13/05
Test ordered GLU, THY, BLIND CAP, TSH, FREE T4
(PA-C made notation after lab report "random non-fasting". She must think
this because the test was in the afternoon. I did not eat since the night
before because I knew I would be taking this test I REQUESTED)

Glucose 125 MG/DL (65-110)
THY BLIND CAP 1.1 (0.8-1.3)
TSH 2.96 (0.27-4.20 uIU/ml)

4/20/05 I'll only post the high numbers. This was ordered by a new
Neurologist I went to see)

HGB 18.6 H (14.0-18.0 G/DL)
HCT 53.8 H (42-52 %)
MCH 32.5 H (27.0-31.0 PG)
CHOLESTEROL 230 H (110-200)
TRIGLYCERIDES 185 H (40-170)
HDL 30 L (40-)
LDL 163 H (65-129)
CHOL/HDL RATIO 7.7 H (0.00-4.88 %)
FREE T4 1.0 (0.7-1.9 NG/DL)

Ok let it rip guyz.

Note* The ADA told me this does not look good but I have my reasons for
hearing your comments.
My Neuro told me to get to the PCP and get on Lipitor right away then
address the BP later.
The PA-C insisted on me taking Inderol LA 80mg even after I reminded her
that I am on Prevacid and that I knew that this BP med is not recommended
with Prevacid.
She wrote the script and handed it to me and stated "well, it's up to you
whether you fill it or not."
I confirmed this with the pharmacist who told me there are better choices
and confirmed it on the Internet.
This is just part of the battle I have been embroiled with the healthcare
provider and the insurance company as to what is covered and not covered.
I have all my old lab test that were done in the past from 1997-2005 and
the numbers show that this has been a growing problem that has been ignored
by the same healthcare facility.

I think you already know what your labs mean and have an idea what to

do about it.

Not to sound mean spirited, but if you don't do something soon this
will just get more out of control and harder to manage.

Also if you currently have life insurance I would suggest not letting
it lapse. Now think about that for awhile!

Yeah it will be addressed today.

I know that is why I crossposted it to you guys so I could read from people
who know the most about it.

LOL I'm not ready to go down yet. I have a cardio doc who offered to see me
no matter what because this is serious.

I too have Fibro. But if I'm not having a flare, I am able to do light
exercise. I have not found anything to help with the pain when I am having
a flare, I should add. I keep a set of weights by my computer and use them
when I can.

I was not aware that Fibro. caused IR. Thyroid problems can cause Fibro.
though. And they can cause problems with BG (blood glucose).

This needs to be treated!

I have no idea what the THY BLIND CAP is. But they should have also checked
your T3 and T4. Without checking those you don't know if your thyroid is
okay or not. Why oh why do Drs. insist on only checking the TSH?

Strange. Here they checked the Free T4 but not the T3. I don't know what
some of these things are. But the cholesterol stuff should fall in line
when you get your BG down.

I am not familiar with this BP med. Given your IR, you should be on an ACE.
If that's not possible, then an ARB. I do wish you luck! I know how hard
it can be to have multiple medical problems and getting a Dr. to address all
of them.

Andrew thanks for the tips.
I was told by a friend to cut out everything white, I don't have a candy
addiction and gave up fast food long ago along with drinking.
Go figure the numbers went up!
8-12 lbs of food? No way! I never eat that much and recently my signot and I
pretty much gave up soda except for one now and then. We drink Crystal light
now or Wylers sugar free.
The quitting smoking again is going to make me an unbearable jerk like last
time. Eeek.

PS. I know Emory where you work. I used to live in ATL.
